Self-Portrait with Seven Fingers (Russian: ??????????? ? ????? ????????), is a painting made by the Russian painter Marc Chagall in 1912-1913. This oil on canvas is a self-portrait in which the artist depicts himself painting a reduced version of To Russia, Donkeys and Others, with seven fingers on one hand. This is the first self-portrait Chagall painted in France. It was painted in his first studio in Paris, during the period when Cubism had a major influence on him. The painting is kept at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, along with other works by the painter. In May 1911, Chagall left Belarus for Paris, where he continued to study painting and met many avant-garde artists and poets (Sonia Delaunay and her husband Robert Delaunay, André Lhote, Guillaume Apollinaire, Max Jacob, Ricciotto Canudo and others). He became familiar with modern European art, especially Cubism, which had a certain influence on him. At the beginning of 1912, he moved into the attic of the phalanstère La ruche, which in the years 1900-1920 was home to a number of artists who later became part of the École de Paris. Many of them, like Chagall, were of Jewish origin, coming from Eastern Europe, particularly Russia and Belarus. Several of his paintings bear the stamp of his memories of Vitebsk and, more broadly, of Russia (Moi et le village, À la Russie, aux ânes et aux autres, Dédié à ma fiancée).
